Yorkshire Wolds Local Area
Wolds View Holiday Cottages are set in the heart of East Yorkshire at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. Get away from the usual busy tourist attractions spending hours queuing for entry. Instead, take a leisurely drive to explore the area and enjoy the colourful countryside or wild and rugged coastlines. See the interesting and varied village crafts or discover some of the remote villages of the Wolds where time seems to stand still and let a sense of complete relaxation overtake you. Visit the Nature Reserve, the Farm Market and Museum, a local wildlife artist, or an artist who runs the village shop. You may be interested in antique furniture and garden ornaments or garden centres. Horses, goats and even ostriches can be seen in nearby parks. The choice is yours!
All though we are set in a very small village/hamlet, we do have a local bus service that runs through our village and an up to date timetable can be found in all the Holiday Cottages.
There are plenty of excellent golf courses very close by and some of the finest walks in the country, including the Wolds Way, or try the "Pocklington Round" scenic drive - Wolds View Holiday Cottages make a great place to start.
The market town of Pocklington is only two miles away, with shops, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and sporting, fitness and recreation facilities, in fact all you need to make the most of your stay. Beautiful lily ponds (amongst the finest in Europe) can be found at Burnby Hall Gardens whilst the more adventurous could visit the Wolds Gliding Club, situated on the edge of Pocklington for an aerial view of the Wolds.
Visit some of our historic village churches - some of the finest in Yorkshire - or take part in local art and crafts, enabling you to take home presents which you have made.
For destinations a little further afield a car will be required. The luxury of your own transport will allow you to completely explore the area around, enjoy the birds, flowers and beautiful countryside which are often missed when in a city. East Yorkshire's rugged coastline is less than an hour away and the beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds, Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors, Danes Dyke, Flamborough and Spurn Point should not be missed.
Should you tire of country pursuits, the historic towns of Beverley and York, with their famous Ministers, are just on our doorstep. A scenic boat trip down the River Ouse is very relaxing or you may like to visit the National Railway Museum in York. The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington, with its large collection of aircraft and memorabilia, is only a few miles away and Harrogate is only a little further afield. Major shopping centres such as Hull and Leeds are within easy reach, as are the seaside resorts of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington and Hornsea.
Despite the stunning rural location, Wolds View Holiday Cottages are
not far from the UK motorway network (M1, A1M & M62), the mainline
railway station at York and to mainland Europe by
North Sea Ferries and
Humberside Airport.
